Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) held a luncheon on October 14th at The Purple Iris in Martinsburg to present the agency’s 2024 Charity in Action Award to Margarita (Maggie) Garrido-Cortes.
“Our Charity in Action Award honors charitable persons and groups for their devotion to the service of others,” said Jeremy Wanless, CCWVa Eastern Regional Director.

Honoree Garrido-Cortes works for Telamon Corporation’s housing program where she helps families move from homelessness to homeownership. Her work at Telamon reflects her lifelong dedication to improving the lives of others, particularly those from underserved backgrounds.
Sponsors, community members, and friends gathered at The Purple Iris for a lunch and program to honor Maggie.
“Maggie wholeheartedly commits her time and passion to enhancing the lives of others,” said Wanless. “We’re grateful for all she does, and for the honor of celebrating her work.”
Funds raised through the event support CCWVa’s programs and services in eastern West Virginia.
