Catholic Charities Celebrates 2024 Charity in Action Award Honorees in Princeton

Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) awarded the recipients of its 2024 Charity in Action Award in Princeton: Monica Mills, Lori Bishop, and The Mommy Ministry. These three honorees were the first ever in this region, as it was the inaugural Charity In Action Awards Event in Princeton.

Our Charity in Action Award honors charitable persons and groups for their devotion to the service of others,” stated CCWVa President & CEO, Mark Phillips. “Our honorees have shown the power that radical love for our neighbors can have in creating a more just and compassionate society for all.”

CCWVa recognized all three recipients at its Charity in Action Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at the Karen Preservati Center in Princeton, West Virginia. This is a remarkable and memorable event designed to inspire and honor exceptional local heroes who wholeheartedly commit their time, passion, and resources to enhance the lives of the people in Princeton and the neighboring communities.

 Honoree, Monica Mills

Monica was recognized for the compassion, hope, and advocacy she embodies as a loyal volunteer of Catholic Charities. She is a retired LPN and a member of Sacred Catholic Church in Princeton, the choir, and Mommy Ministry Group.

“Monica is respectful and treats all clients with compassion and dignity. She has a positive and uplifting personality that remains constant across the board,” said Matthew Atwood of CCWVa. “She is an advocate for the less fortunate. If anything needs to be done, she is always happy to jump in and help.”

Honoree, Lori Bishop

Lori is a lifelong resident of McDowell County and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church who has shown dedication and compassion through her service as a Catholic Charities board member and her time on the Southern Regional Advisory Council.

Lori remains dedicated to her community by making sure the food pantry at her church is always staffed, stocked, and organized. She is always willing to help CCWVa with fundraising, community awareness, and direct service to clients.

 Honoree, The Mommy Ministry

The Mommy Ministry shows charity and compassion through collaboration with local organizations to help meet the needs of new and expectant mothers.

The Mommy Ministry partners with the CCWVa Princeton office to offer a baby supply pantry to the community. They have helped stock the pantry with things like diapers, wipes, formula, baby food, clothing, and a variety of other items geared toward families with young children.

“Catholic Charities West Virginia is grateful to have so many cherished collaborators and supporters in service with us. Together in spirit and mission of charity, we have changed lives for the better,” stated Mark Phillips.

Proceeds from this event support our programs in 11 counties in our Southern Region, which includes Princeton, Hinton, Beckley, and surrounding communities. As the largest nonprofit provider of social and human services in West Virginia, we are committed to reducing poverty in West Virginia.
