A Community Coming Together: Restoring Hope and Power for Jim and His Son

Cultivating partnerships broadens our collective impact and builds trust within the communities we serve.  We recently saw the value of this collaborative approach in our new Romney Office.

Jim needed assistance with electric service at the home he shares with his son.  His electricity had been shut off the day before he came to see us for help with his bill.

Inspired to find a solution, our staff called upon our community partners.  Together with Jim, they developed a plan to get his lights back on.  That plan included DHHR/LIEAP resources, Catholic Charities, and partners such as Hampshire County Support Center, Salvation Army, and Hampshire Ministerial Association.

Through this network of services and resources, we relieved Jim’s stress in two ways: helping him navigate the process and providing direct assistance with the payment.  Our office also offered ongoing support in the hope that he can avoid similar situations in the future.  While that support might look different for every person who comes to us, the goal is always the same: to connect people with the services they need to be happy and healthy and reach their full potential.

Jim’s story illustrates the importance of community.  No single agency would have been able to meet his needs alone.  In collaboration, they crafted a plan that succeeded in restoring Jim’s electric service, keeping him and his son safe and their housing secure.

We appreciate our community partnerships and your faithful support.  Our work takes a village and we’re grateful to be part of this one.
