Guided by God’s Love: Helping a Family Find Stability and Financial Support

When Dan called our Romney office, he was overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. Practically overnight, his life had changed dramatically, and he’d been granted full custody of his five young children. While he worked full-time and had a steady income, the sudden increase in responsibilities, coupled with recent family challenges, had quickly drained his savings. With overdue water and sewage bills piling up and the need to navigate adjustments to his SNAP benefits, Dan was facing a crossroads he didn’t know how to manage.

Catholic Charities West Virginia staff stepped in to offer guidance, compassion, practical, and financial support. We worked hand-in-hand with the utility companies to ensure that Dan’s family had safe and reliable access to water and essential services. Understanding that stability requires more than just meeting immediate needs, we referred him to the Hampshire County Family Support Center for ongoing assistance, creating a support network to help his family thrive in the months ahead.

Recognizing that Dan’s adjustment to his “new normal” would take time, we also invited him back for help with budgeting, childcare resources, and financial support planning. By walking alongside him, we could ensure that he had the tools, knowledge, and encouragement to provide a stable, supportive, and nurturing environment for his children.

Dan shared his gratitude: “Thank you for helping me and my family. I hope that we can make it now that everything is caught up to date.” His words reflect the relief and hope that a little financial support and guidance can bring to families navigating sudden life changes.

Guided by God’s love, Catholic Charities West Virginia was there for Dan and his children, offering not just financial help but a pathway toward renewed hope, stability, and the promise of a fresh start. In moments of uncertainty and challenge, our mission is to stand with families, ensuring that no one faces life’s difficulties alone.
