A Door Opened, A Future Renewed

When a young couple found themselves living out of their car, the dream of a safe, stable home felt just out of reach. An opportunity to move into an apartment finally opened the door, but like so many families facing housing insecurity, the upfront costs of a security deposit and first month’s rent stood in their way. A local Family Support Center stepped in and connected them with Catholic Charities West Virginia.

Staff in our Romney office took the time to listen and walk with the couple as they worked toward stability. One spouse had recently secured employment at a local factory, and the other also had income, demonstrating both determination and resilience. Because of their efforts, the couple was able to cover the security deposit on their own. Through collaboration with community partners and the generosity of a private donor, Catholic Charities West Virginia helped bridge the remaining gap, accompanying this family as they moved into safe, permanent housing.

The transition from homelessness to an apartment marks more than a change of address. It represents hope, dignity, and a renewed sense of possibility. We are deeply grateful to walk alongside families like this as they take meaningful steps toward the life they envision for themselves.

Grant funders, private donors, and community partners together form a powerful network of compassion. When we work together, we strengthen our communities and ensure that our neighbors are not walking alone as they build healthier, more stable futures.
