When a woman was discharged from the hospital, she faced an uncertain return home. In the middle of February’s snowstorms, she and her husband were living in a mobile home without heat after their furnace broke. With little food in the house and two dogs depending on them, the challenges of recovery felt overwhelming.
Thanks to a referral from WVU Medicine’s social services team, Catholic Charities West Virginia’s Hospital Transition Program stepped in at just the right time. The couple received two large space heaters, making their home warm, safe, and comfortable while they worked toward repairing their furnace. Kroger gift cards also helped ensure they had food on the table during a difficult season.
Instead of worrying about how to stay warm or where their next meal would come from, she could focus on what mattered most: healing.
