Grace Transitional Housing Program

Grace Transitional Housing, part of Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa), offers individuals experiencing homelessness a safe place to live while they work toward permanent housing and independence.

Located inside Hazel’s House of Hope in Morgantown, Grace Transitional Housing provides five fully furnished apartments (one two-bedroom and four one-bedroom units) with all utilities included. Residents sign a six-month lease, giving them time to save money, build rental history, and connect with supportive services that foster long-term stability.

Why Transitional Housing Matters

For many, affordable housing is out of reach. In West Virginia, more than 1,000 individuals are currently experiencing homelessness. Within Region 1 of the West Virginia Continuum of Care (Monongalia, Preston, Marion, Tucker, Doddridge, and Harrison Counties), over 230 people were unhoused or living in emergency shelters as of January 2025.

Transitional housing like Grace provides more than a roof overhead. It helps residents:

  • Save for a security deposit and first month’s rent
  • Build financial literacy and employment skills
  • Establish rental history to secure future housing
  • Access compassionate, person-centered support

Part of a Network of Care

Grace Transitional Housing complements Grace Shelter, CCWVa’s 19-bed emergency shelter also located at Hazel’s House of Hope. Together, these programs create pathways from crisis to independence.

Hazel’s House of Hope also houses other CCWVa services, including:

  • Child Care Resource Center
  • WV Birth to Three
  • Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services
  • Emergency Financial Assistance

By bringing multiple programs under one roof, Catholic Charities West Virginia provides comprehensive support to some of the most vulnerable in our community—helping neighbors not only find shelter, but also hope, dignity, and a path forward.
