Catholic Charities West Virginia’s (CCWVa) Central Region’s 14th annual Communities of Salt and Light dinner will be held April 22 at the Knights of Columbus Banquet Hall in Fairmont. The 2016 honorees are Janey Jones of Barbour County, Martha Shanabarger of Taylor County and the Parish Nurse Ministry of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Harrison County.
“These individuals are part of communities of faith, action and of hope,” said CCWVa Central Regional Director Kandi Shafer. “They have embraced their formation and have been active to renew the Earth.”
Salt and Light honorees exemplify the teachings of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ document, “Communities of Salt and Light: Reflections on the Social Mission of the Parish.” Honorees are selected by the CCWVa Central Regional Advisory Council from nominations submitted by Catholic parishioners in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston’s Clarksburg Vicariate. CCWVa’s Central Region shares the same boundaries as the Clarksburg Vicariate.
Proceeds from the dinner support CCWVa’s Central Region, which serves the West Virginia counties of Barbour, Preston, Taylor, Marion, Monongalia, Harrison and Doddridge. CCWVa provides vital programs and services that aim to alleviate, prevent and reduce poverty.
Additionally, a memorial award will be presented to the family of Nancy Davisson, a longtime volunteer and Regional Advisory Council member. CCWVa members said they will greatly miss her.
The event is sponsored by 96.7, WKMM, out of Kingwood.
Tickets to the awards dinner are $35 per person. Sponsorships are available at varying levels.
