We’ve all heard talk about climate change. It’s an issue that has been in the news recently because of the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. In fact, the U.S. Bishops and Catholic Charities USA have issued or signed on to statements affirming the value of the Paris Agreement, which aims to keep the global temperature from rising 2° Fahrenheit (compared to pre-industrial revolution temperatures).
It makes one wonder… Why should we, as people of faith, care so much about climate change?
Pope Francis wrote an Encyclical exploring the issue of climate change, and answering the question “Why Us”. The letter was released in May of 2015, just a few months before 197 nations (including the U.S.) signed on to the Paris Agreement.
